MLB: Tampa Bay 8, Oakland 2

OAKLAND, Calif., April 25 (UPI) -- Carlos Pena hit his seventh and eighth home runs of the season Friday and had four RBI, boosting the Tampa Bay Rays to an 8-2 victory over Oakland.

Pena hit a three-run homer as part of the Rays' five-run third inning and added a solo shot in the sixth.

Gabe Cross had a solo homer for Tampa Bay in the second, one of 13 hits that helped the defending American League champions move within one game of climbing out of the division cellar.

Scott Kazmir (3-1) allowed two hits over six shutout innings to get the victory.

Trevor Cahill (0-2) was touched for seven runs and eight hits over just 2 2/3 innings.

Oakland did not score until the eighth, when the Athletics got a solo homer from Jack Hannahan and an RBI single from Ryan Sweeney.
