ANAHEIM, Calif., April 25 (UPI) -- Adrian Beltre ignited a six-run fifth inning with a two-run double Friday and the Seattle Mariners went on to down the Los Angeles Angels 8-3.
The Mariners won their second straight and improved their win total to 11 -- five more than any other team in the AL West.
Seattle owned a 1-0 lead going into the fifth before breaking the game open against Shane Loux (0-2).
Ichiro Suzuki, Endy Chavez and Ken Griffey Jr. all singled to start the inning, loading the bases. Beltre came through with a double that scored two runs and Russell Branyan then walked to again load the bases.
Griffey scored on an infield single by Jose Lopez, Rob Johnson singled in Beltre and Rich Thompson finally relieved Loux. Thompson promptly threw a wild pitch that allowed Branyan to score and Yuniesky Betancourt's sacrifice fly accounted for the final run of the inning.
Erik Bedard (2-1) got the win, allowing two runs on five hits over 6 2/3 innings.
