Vikings' Asher Allen retires at age 24

KANSAS CITY, Mo., April 25 (UPI) -- Gerald Laird and Curtis Granderson each hit a two-run homer Saturday to power the Detroit Tigers to a 9-1 win over the Kansas City Royals.
Laird had three hits, Magglio Ordonez had a solo homer, Josh Anderson hit a two-run triple and Placido Polanco had a two-run double for the Tigers.
Zach Miner (2-1) allowed one run on three hits over five-plus innings to get the win.
Starter Kyle Davies (1-1) took the loss, giving up seven runs on eight hits over 5 1/3 innings for the Royals, who lost for the fourth time in six games.
Mike Jacobs drove in the lone Kansas City run.
