DALLAS, April 24 (UPI) -- A panel of sportswriters and broadcasters Friday voted Dallas Mavericks guard Jason Terry the NBA's Sixth Man of the Year.

The 6-foot-2 inch Terry, a former starter, received 576 of a possible 605 points, including 111 of a possible 121 first-place votes.

Denver's J.R. Smith finished second with 155 points and New York's Nate Robinson was third with 113 points.

To be eligible, a player must have come off the bench in more games than he started.

Despite starting a career-low 11 games in the regular season, Terry, who played at Arizona, averaged 19.6 points and 3.4 assists per contest and sank a career high 2.3 3-pointers per game.

"This is a tremendous honor," he said. "I could not have accomplished this without my coaching staff and my teammates. I am thankful to the entire Mavericks organization and the voters for helping me to reach this goal."

Terry was a sixth man in 63 of the 74 contests in which he played.
