Philadelphia Flyers vs Pittsburgh Penguins

PITTSBURGH, April 23 (UPI) -- Martin Biron recorded his second playoff shutout by making 28 saves Thursday, keeping Philadelphia alive in the post-season with a 3-0 win over Pittsburgh.

Pittsburgh's advantage in the best-of-seven, opening-round series was reduced to 3-2. The Flyers will try to force a deciding game when they host the Penguins Saturday.

Biron also had a shutout in last year's playoffs, during which he appeared in 17 games. Pittsburgh had scored 13 goals over the first four games of this series.

The game was scoreless into the second period, but Arron Asham put Philadelphia into the lead 6:32 into that stanza with a slapshot that got past Marc-Andre Fleury.

Claude Giroux gave Philadelphia some breathing room by scoring on a wrist shot 3:25 into the third and Mike Knuble added a goal with 6:48 remaining.

The Flyers are trying to overcome a 3-1 playoff deficit for the first time in team history. This marks the 14th time Philadelphia has fallen behind 3-1 in a series.

Pittsburgh is attempting to eliminate Philadelphia from the playoffs for the second straight year. The Penguins knocked out the Flyers in last season's conference finals.
