TORONTO, April 22 (UPI) -- Amado Guevara scored in the 36th minute Wednesday and Toronto FC handed Chivas USA its first loss of the season 1-0.

Toronto (2-2-1), which moved into third place in the Eastern Conference, played the game without Coach John Carver on the bench. Carver was fined by MLS this week for comments he made about the officiating in a game last week and his response was to not show up for Wednesday's game.

Assistant Chris Cummins guided the team to its first victory since the season opener.

Soccer opener on March 21.

"John has his reasons (for not being on the bench) and I don't want to get into it," Cummins said.

Chivas still lead Seattle by four points at the top of the Western Conference.
