MLB: Seattle 4, Tampa Bay 2

SEATTLE, April 22 (UPI) -- Jarrod Washburn held Tampa to two runs Tuesday, going seven innings to improve to 3-0 in the Seattle Mariners' 4-2 win over the Rays.

Washburn struck out nine and scattered five hits and three walks. He now has given up just four earned runs in 21 innings. He is 12-3 in 17 starts lifetime against the Rays.

The Mariners' got triples from Rob Johnson and Yuniesky Betancourt. Johnson knocked in two runs, while Betancourt and Mike Sweeney got one RBI each.

After losing 101 games in 2008, the Mariners have won seven of their first nine games.

The losing pitcher was Andy Sonnanstine (0-2), who gave up four runs -- three earned -- on six hits and a walk.

Tampa Bay's runs were driven in by Pat Burrell and Evan Longoria.

The Rays have lost six of seven.
