Cardinals get reliever Boyer from Braves

ST. LOUIS, April 20 (UPI) -- The St. Louis Cardinals acquired reliever Blaine Boyer from Atlanta Monday in exchange for minor-league outfielder Brian Barton.

Boyer, 27, has allowed six runs in 1 1/3 innings for a 40.50 earned run average this season. The right-hander pitched in 76 games last season for Atlanta and was 2-6 with a 5.88 ERA.

Over parts of five MLB seasons, all with the Braves, Boyer has a 6-9 record with a 5.46 ERA in 129 games.

Barton, who was playing with Triple-A Memphis this season, made his major league debut last season with the Cardinals. In 82 games he batted .268 with two home runs and 13 runs batted in.
