PHILADELPHIA, April 19 (UPI) -- Martin Biron stopped 26-of-29 shots Sunday, helping Philadelphia beat Pittsburgh 6-3 and shrink its deficit to 2-1 in the Eastern Conference quarterfinals.
The fifth-seeded Flyers, who are trying to rebound from an 0-2 series deficit for just the third time in franchise history, got two goals from Simon Gagne -- the first shorthanded in the second period and the second into an empty net at 18:24 of the third.
Jeff Carter, Mike Richards (power play), Claude Giroux and Jared Ross all scored once, while Danny Briere had two assists for the Flyers, who lost the first two games, both on the road.
Marc-Andre Fleury let in five goals on 29 shots for the Penguins.
Pittsburgh's Evgeni Malkin scored twice -- once on the power play. Rob Scuderi and Evgeni Malkin both scored once, and Sidney Crosby had two assists for the Penguins, who also won the first two games during a 2000 Eastern Conference semifinal against the Flyers, but lost the series in six games.
