ATLANTA, April 19 (UPI) -- Josh Smith scored 23 points for Atlanta Sunday in a 90-64 blitz of the Miami Heat, opening their Eastern Conference quarterfinal series.
Joe Johnson contributed 15 points, Al Horford 13 and Mike Bibby, Marvin Williams and Zaza Pachulia 10 each for the Hawks.
Miami star Dwyane Wade had 19 points but also committed eight turnovers. Michael Beasley had 10 points and 10 rebounds for the Heat.
Game 2 is scheduled for Wednesday in Atlanta.
