VANCOUVER, British Columbia, April 18 (UPI) -- Roberto Luongo recorded his first NHL career playoff shutout Friday, carrying the Vancouver Canucks to a 3-0 victory over St. Louis.
The Canucks took a 2-0 lead in the opening-round series, which resumes Sunday in St. Louis.
Luongo has 47 regular-season shutouts in 544 games over a nine-year career, but this was only his 14th playoff contest. He made 30 saves to even his playoff record at 7-7.
St. Louis trailed by just one goal before Alexandre Burrows tipped in a shot midway through the third period. Henrik Sedin scored into an empty net with 1:24 to go.
Vancouver took the lead with 1:52 remaining in the second period on a goal by Mats Sundin.
Chris Mason made 24 saves, but fell to 0-2 in the playoffs after a rookie season in which he won 27 games and put together six shutouts.
The Canucks have lost at home in regulation time just once since the end of January. They have gone 15-1-2 during that stretch.
