EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J., April 18 (UPI) -- The defensive-minded New York Red Bulls limited Real Salt Lake to just four shots Saturday on the way to a 2-0 Major League Soccer victory.

It was the first win this season for the Red Bulls (1-2-2), who had won their first MLS Cup in 2008.

The winners netted one goal in each half, with Macoumba Kandji scoring in the second minute on a shot beyond RSL goalkeeper Kyle Reynish, who also yielded Juan Pablo Angel's goal in the 57th minute.

New York defender Jeremy Hall received a red card in the 66th minute for a hard foul on RSL midfielder Will Johnson.

New York goalkeeper Jon Conway made four saves to three for Reynish.

RSL's record dropped to 2-2-0.
