WASHINGTON, April 18 (UPI) -- A two-out, infield single by Jeremy Hermida drove in Jorge Cantu in the 10th inning Friday and gave the Florida Marlins a 3-2 victory over Washington.

Florida is off to the best start in franchise history at 9-1.

The Nationals won their first game of the season Thursday and appeared set to make it two in a row when they took a one-run lead into the ninth. Cody Ross tied it, however, with a homer off Joel Hanrahan and Florida won it in the 10th against Saul Rivera (0-2).

After the first two batters were retired in the 10th, Cantu singled and moved to third on a base hit by Dan Uggla. Cantu raced home with the go-ahead run on Hermida's infield hit and Florida escaped a jam in the bottom of the 10th to grab its fifth straight victory.

With Matt Lindstrom on the mound for the Marlins, Elijah Dukes led off the bottom of the 10th with a double. But Josh Willingham flew out to deep right and both Jesus Flores and Alberto Gonzales struck out to end the game and give Lindstrom his second save.

Leo Nunez (1-0) worked the ninth inning to get the win.
