Dementieva grabs semifinal berth

CHARLESTON, S.C., April 18 (UPI) -- Top-seeded Elena Dementieva moved into the semifinals of the Family Circle Cup Friday when Dominika Cibulkova had to retire in the second set.

Cibulkova strained a muscle in her midsection with Dementieva owning a 6-4, 1-0 lead.

Caroline Wozniacki earned a semifinal meeting with Dementieva by coasting to a 6-2, 6-0 win over Virginie Razzano.

Sabine Lisicki continued her unexpected success in the tournament by storming past Elena Vesnina 6-4, 6-0. Lisicki eliminated former champion and second-seeded Venus Williams in the third round of the event.

Lisicki's opponent in the semifinals will be Marion Bartoli, who was a 6-4, 6-1 winner over Melinda Czink.
