NEW YORK, April 17 (UPI) -- Derek Jeter's solo homer in the bottom of the eighth inning Friday boosted the New York Yankees to a 6-5 win over Cleveland.

His third homer this season was the fifth solo hit by New York in its second game at the new Yankee Stadium.

His only hit came off losing pitcher Jensen Lewis (1-1) with two outs.

The other homers were hit by Johnny Damon and Mark Teixeira, back-to-back, in the third, Melky Cabrera in the fourth and Robinson Cano in the sixth.

A run scored on Vinnie Chulk's throwing error in the seventh.

Damon had two of the eight hits for the Yankees, whose major league-record 11-game winning streak in home openers ended Thursday with a 10-2 loss.

The winner was Brian Bruney (2-0), while closer Mariano Rivera earned his second save despite giving up two hits in the top of the ninth.

Cleveland's Mark DeRosa had two hits -- one a first-inning solo homer -- two RBI.

Three other players had one RBI.
