MINNEAPOLIS, April 17 (UPI) -- A torn pectoral muscle on the right side of his chest wall will sideline LA Angels right fielder Vladimir Guerrero for four weeks, the team said Friday.
Guerrero, 34, underwent right knee surgery in October and was brought along slowly at spring training.
The team said on its Web site before Friday's contest at Minnesota that Guerrero has struggled since making a throw from right field in an April 2 exhibition game against the Los Angeles Dodgers.
"Obviously, short of needing surgery, this is a big blow," said Angels' Manager Mike Scioscia. "We don't have a timetable right now. We'll see how it progresses."
The veteran slugger is one of only two players in major league history, with Lou Gehrig (1927-37), to record at least a .300 average batting average and at least 25 homers in 11 straight seasons.
He is batting .250 with just one homer and three RBI in 32 at-bats this season.
