NHL: Chicago 3, Calgary 2 (OT)

CHICAGO, April 16 (UPI) -- Martin Havlat scored just 12 seconds into overtime Thursday, giving the Chicago Blackhawks a playoff-opening 3-2 victory over Calgary.

The Blackhawks celebrated their first post-season game in seven years by twice coming from one goal down and then winning it on Havlat's second score of the contest. It was the first overtime game of this year's NHL playoffs.

Calgary won the faceoff to start the overtime, but Havlat quickly stole the puck and headed for the goal. His wrist shot beat Miikka Kiprusoff high to the stick side.

Chicago won all four regular-season meetings between the teams by a combined score of 19-7. The second game of the series will be played Saturday in Chicago.

David Moss gave Calgary the lead 8:38 into the game, but Cam Barker tied it with 6:43 to play in the second period.

Michael Cammalleri put the Flames back in front at 3:54 of the third period and Havlat, who had a career-high 77 points this year, produced the final goal of regulation with 5:33 to go.

Nikolai Khabibulin, who shut out Detroit in the final game of the regular season, made 23 saves to improve his playoff record to 32-25. He had not appeared in a post-season game since 2004, when he recorded five shutouts while leading Tampa Bay to the Stanley Cup title.
