PITTSBURGH, April 16 (UPI) -- Lance Berkman's three-run sixth-inning homer Thursday lifted the Houston Astros to a 6-3 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates.
With the score tied 3-3, Berkman launched an offering from reliever and losing pitcher Sean Burnett (0-1) into the left field seats.
He redeemed himself after leaving the bases loaded in the same situation in the fourth by being retired on a fly ball.
Hunter Pence hit a solo homer in the second, while both Carlos Lee and Russ Ortiz had one RBI.
Miguel Tejada had a run and two of the 10 hits for the Astros, who have split their last four outings.
The winning pitcher was reliever Wesley Wright (1-0) and LaTroy Hawkins earned his first save.
Pittsburgh's Nyjer Morgan had three hits and one RBI.
Adam LaRoche had two hits and one RBI, and one run scored on a wild pitch by Ortiz in the first.
The Pirates have lost three of four.
