Winner Anibal Sanchez (1-0) yielded two earned runs and eight hits in six innings.
Atlanta scored on Jeff Francoeur's third-inning single and fifth-inning double.
Garret Anderson and losing pitcher Kenshin Kawakami added two hits apiece for the Braves, who lost shortstop Yunel Escobar in the sixth inning to a strained abdominal muscle.
