ST. PETERSBURG, Fla., April 16 (UPI) -- Bobby Jenks worked out of a ninth-inning jam Thursday to earn his third save and bring the Chicago White Sox a 3-2 victory over Tampa Bay.

Chicago out-hit the Rays 14-5, but had to sweat out the bottom of the ninth after the Rays put the potential tying and winning runs on base.

Jermaine Dye went 3-for-5 and hit a two-run homer in the second inning. The only other Chicago run came when Josh Fields reached on an infield single to drive in Brian Anderson from third in the top of the ninth that gave the White Sox a 3-1 lead.

Chicago survived a scare in the bottom half of the inning when, with a runner on first and one away, Akinori Iwamura reached on a fielding error by second baseman Chris Getz. B.J. Upton then drew a walk to load the bases and Jason Bartlett scored from third on a fielder's choice grounder by Carl Crawford.

Jenks recorded the final out of the game on a ground ball to first by Gabe Gross.

John Danks (1-0) got the win by throwing two-hit ball and allowing a run through six innings.

Jeff Niemann (0-2) gave up Dye's homer and took the loss in a six-inning stint.
