
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla., April 15 (UPI) -- Derek Jeter's second hit Wednesday, a ninth-inning RBI single, delivered the New York Yankees a 4-3 win over the Tampa Bay Rays.
Jeter's two-out hit to left off closer and losing pitcher Troy Percival snapped a 3-3 tie.
New York's Robinson Cano had two hits, including a fourth-inning, two-run homer. Johnny Damon had two hits and one RBI, while slugger Mark Teixeira went hitless in four trips for the Yankees, who have split their last four games.
Teixeira's batting average dropped to .174 in 23 at-bats.
The winning pitcher was Brian Bruney (1-0).
Closer Mariano Rivera earned his second save by retiring the side in order in the bottom of the ninth.
Tampa Bay's Carlos Pena launched a solo homer in the fourth.
B.J. Upton and Carl Crawford also had one RBI each for the Rays, who have lost five of their first nine games after capturing the first American League pennant in franchise history.
