MLB: N.Y. Mets 7, San Diego 2

NEW YORK, April 15 (UPI) -- Oliver Perez held San Diego to three hits over six innings Wednesday and the New York Mets recorded the first win in their new stadium, 7-2 over the Padres.

The victory also came on Jackie Robinson Day, which celebrated the 62nd anniversary of the Hall of Fame second baseman's breaking of baseball's color barrier.

Carlos Delgado had two hits for the Mets, including a solo homer in the eighth. New York had only three RBI in the game, scoring one run on a double play, another on a wild pitch and two more on a throwing error by catcher Nick Hundley during a four-run seventh inning.

Perez (1-1) struck out five during his six-inning stint and left the game with a 2-1 lead after throwing 89 pitches.

The Mets broke the game open with the big seventh inning and Delgado made it 7-1 with his homer. Adrian Gonzalez hit a solo home run for the Padres in the ninth.

San Diego lost for just the third time in nine games this season after losing 99 contests last year. Kevin Correia (0-1) suffered the setback, giving up two runs on five hits in five innings.
