
CHICAGO, April 15 (UPI) -- Veteran right-hander Jason Marquis gave up a run and just five hits in seven innings Wednesday, helping Colorado post a 5-2 win over the Chicago Cubs.
Marquis (2-0) also helped beat his former team with his bat. His two-run third-inning single off losing pitcher Rich Harden (0-1) giving Colorado an insurmountable 4-1 advantage.
Seth Smith hit a solo second-inning homer. One run scored on Alfonso Soriano's third-inning fielding error and one scored on Dexter Fowler's eighth-inning double.
Todd Helton had two of the nine hits and Jason Grilli recorded the final three outs to earn his first save this season for the Rockies, who have split their first eight games.
One of three hits by Chicago's Derrek Lee was a solo homer in the ninth.
Micah Hoffpauir hit a pinch-hit RBI double in the fifth, and Reed Johnson had two hits for the Cubs, who had won three in a row.
