OAKLAND, Calif., April 15 (UPI) -- The Boston Red Sox placed right hander Daisuke Matsuzaka on the 15-day disabled list Wednesday with "arm fatigue."

Manager Terry Francona said he will be evaluated on Friday by their medical staff before a decision is made on a proper course of rehab.

Matsuzaka was pulled after one inning in his start Tuesday against the Oakland Athletics because of mild right shoulder strain.

During his brief outing against the Athletics, he was torched for five runs and five hits in 43 pitches.

His 3-0 record helped Team Japan win the World Baseball Classic last month, but he is 0-1 with a 12.79 ERA in two starts since his return to the Red Sox.

Also, he missed three weeks last June with a mild strain of his right rotator cuff.

The Boston Globe reported that his replacement is southpaw Hunter Jones and right hander Justin Masterson will go to the bullpen.
