
PHOENIX, April 14 (UPI) -- Albert Pujols and Brian Barden homered and Todd Wellemeyer allowed one run over seven innings Monday to lead the St. Louis Cardinals past Arizona 2-1.
Wellemeyer (1-1) limited the Diamondbacks to seven hits, striking out four and walking none.
Ryan Franklin pitched a scoreless ninth to get his first save of 2009 and give the Cards their fifth straight win.
Doug Davis (0-2) went eight innings, allowing just two runs on seven hits with five strikeouts and one walk.
Pujols put the Cardinals ahead 1-0 with a solo homer in the fourth but the Diamondbacks tied it in the home half of the fourth with Conor Jackson led off with a single and then scored on a double by Chad Tracy.
Barden homered with no one on in the eighth to drive in the winning run.
