ATLANTA, April 14 (UPI) -- Atlanta Braves veteran left-hander Tom Glavine Tuesday had an MRI that disclosed an inflamed rotator cuff in his pitching shoulder.
Glavine, 43, will miss his scheduled Saturday start in Pittsburgh.
Glavine started for the Class AA Mississippi Braves Sunday. He gave up three hits and one run with a walk over two innings. In his only at-bat in the game, he experienced discomfort in his left shoulder and pulled himself from the game.
Glavine returned to Atlanta and team staff set up a medical appointment Tuesday. He has been told to rest and have treatment for 2 weeks before being re-evaluated. Glavine will earn a $1 million bonus if he is added to the Braves' active roster.
Glavine underwent successful season-ending elbow and shoulder surgery in the off-season. The two-time Cy Young Award winner was expected to regain form after 4-5 months of rehabilitation to decide if he was healthy enough for a 23rd major-league season.
