Report: Saunders to become Wizards coach

WASHINGTON, April 13 (UPI) -- The Washington Wizards have reached an agreement with Flip Saunders to become their head coach, sources said.

Yahoo! Sports reported a verbal agreement has been made on a four-year, $18 million contract, but that it won't be official until Saunders signs a contract.

Wizards interim Coach Ed Tapscott took over when Eddie Jordan was fired early this season. Washington is 19-62, the worst record in the NBA Eastern Conference.

Saunders last coached Detroit for three seasons, from the 2005 to 2008, with the Pistons reaching the East finals each season. Saunders was also the coach of Minnesota from 1995-96 to 2004-05. In his 13 seasons with the Timberwolves and Pistons, Saunders' teams had a 587-396 record.
