MILWAUKEE, April 13 (UPI) -- Alfonso Soriano, Derrek Lee and Koyie Hill had two RBI each and the Chicago Cubs scored four runs on consecutive bases-loaded walks Sunday to top Milwaukee 8-5.
Soriano homered on the first pitch of the game off Brewers starter Jeff Suppan (0-2) -- who lasted just 3 2/3 innings, giving up five runs on two hits and six walks. Four of the walks came in the fourth inning, when four Cubs in a row walked with the bases loaded to give Chicago a 5-1 lead.
Reed Johnson protected the lead in the fifth inning with a highlight-reel catch to take away a grand slam from Milwaukee's Prince Fielder and help Ryan Dempster (1-0) get the win. Dempster went six innings, allowing four runs on six hits and three walks with six strikeouts.
Rickie Weeks had three hits, including a solo homer, and three runs scored for the Brewers, who also got two RBI from J.J. Hardy and a solo homer by Corey Hart.
Milwaukee pitchers walked 10 and hit two Chicago batters.
Soriano's leadoff homer was the 51st of his MLB career, putting him third on the all-time list behind Rickey Henderson (81) and Craig Biggio (53).
