UNIONDALE, N.Y., April 12 (UPI) -- Phil Kessel notched a hat trick Sunday for the Boston Bruins, who ended the regular season schedule with a 6-2 win over the New York Islanders.

The Bruins now go to the playoffs where they tangle with the Montreal Canadiens in the first round. The Islanders are done for the season.

Kessel's hat trick was the second of his career. Michael Ryder, Marc Savard and Chuck Kobasew also scored for Boston.

Tim Thomas got his 36th win of the season, blocking 32 New York shots.

Radek Martinek and Doug Weight scored for the Islanders.

New York goalie Yann Danis totaled 15 saves until he was replaced by Joey McDonald, who had 16.
