Warriors guard done with left ankle injury

Published: April 11, 2009 at 3:31 PM

OAKLAND, Calif., April 11 (UPI) -- Golden State guard Monta Ellis will miss the rest of the season with a bone bruise on his left ankle.

The Contra Costa Times reported Saturday the diagnosis was made after an MRI examination, and because there is no structural damage, doctors told him to stay off his feet for the next two weeks.

Ellis had been limited by off-season surgery on the same ankle, which was severely sprained in a scooter accident near his Jackson, Miss., hometown.

He played in just 25 games with averages of 19 points, 4.3 rebounds and 3.7 assists per contest.

"He's gotten himself back to where he's the same player that we had before," Coach Don Nelson said. "To me that's the most important thing."

Ellis is the fifth Warriors player sidelined by a season-ending injury.

The others are swingman Stephen Jackson (toe) and forwards Corey Maggette (concussion), Brandan Wright (shoulder) and Jermareo Davidson (foot).
