LOS ANGELES, April 11 (UPI) -- A third-period goal by Peter Harrold made the difference Saturday in the Los Angeles Kings' 4-3 win over San Jose.
Wayne Simmonds, Alexander Frolov and Michal Handzus also scored, and Jonathan Quick stopped 27 shots for the Kings (34-37-11), who will miss the playoffs.
Devin Setoguchi, Joe Pavelski and Patrick Marleau scored, and Evgeni Nabokov gave up four goals on 24 shots for the Sharks (53-18-11) -- who, despite the loss, wrapped up the President's Trophy for best regular-season record in the NHL when Boston fell Saturday to Buffalo.
San Jose is the top seed in the Western Conference, but its first-round opponent had yet to be determined Saturday afternoon. Anaheim, Columbus and St. Louis were still fighting it out for the final three seedings in the West.
