BUFFALO, N.Y., April 11 (UPI) -- Thomas Vanek had two goals and an assist and Mikael Tellqvist stopped 34 shots Saturday in the Buffalo Sabres' 6-1 win over Boston.

Matt Ellis and Tim Connolly had a goal and an assist apiece for the Sabres (41-32-9), who won three straight to end their regular season but fell short of making the playoffs.

Mark Recchi scored and Manny Fernandez let in six goals on 34 shots for the Bruins (52-19-10), in a loss that ensures the San Jose Sharks will win the President's Trophy for posting the best regular-season record in the NHL.

It remained to be seen whether Boston will met Montreal or the New York Rangers in the first round of the playoffs.

The Sabres took control early, scoring four first-period goals.
