
OAKLAND, Calif., April 11 (UPI) -- Kenji Johjima, Jose Lopez and Franklin Gutierrez each drove in two runs Saturday when the Seattle Mariners banged out an 8-5 win over Oakland.
Johjima capped a four-run eighth inning with a two-run single, his only hit. Lopez's lone hit was a two-run double in the eighth and Gutierrez's only hit was a two-run fifth-inning single.
Mike Sweeney had three hits, drove in a run and scored a run, and Russell Branyan had two hits including a fourth-inning solo homer. Yuniesky Betancourt had two hits and a run scored in the Mariners' second straight victory.
The winner was reliever Miguel Batista (1-0). Closer Brandon Morrow earned his second save.
Oakland's Jack Cust had two hits, one a two-run fifth-inning homer. Landon Powell hit a two-run second-inning double and Orlando Cabrera had two hits and one RBI for the Athletics, who have lost three of five to start the 2009 season.
The losing pitcher was reliever Santiago Casilla (0-1).
Oakland starter Josh Outman yielded three earned runs and six hits in 4 1/3 innings.
