SEATTLE, April 11 (UPI) -- Endy Chavez finished off a five-run second with a two-run single Friday and five Seattle pitchers made the lead stand up for a 5-4 victory over Oakland.
Chris Jakubauskas (1-0), the second Mariners' pitcher of the evening, worked two innings of relief to get his first major league victory. David Aardsma retired all six men he faced to pick up a two-inning save, his first of the year.
Brett Anderson made the first start of his major league career for Oakland and he was touched for all five runs in the second.
Ken Griffey Jr. drew a one-out walk, went to second on a single by Jose Lopez and advanced to third on a single by Russell Branyan. Kenji Johjima then singled Griffey home and Yuniesky Betancourt delivered a two-run double.
Chavez finished things off with a single to center that brought in Johjima and Betancourt.
