ATLANTA, April 11 (UPI) -- Kelly Johnson singled in Jordan Schafer from second with one out in the 10th inning Friday, giving the Atlanta Braves a 6-5 decision over Washington.
The Nationals remained winless in four games, the franchise's worst start since the Montreal Expos lost seven in a row to open the 1998 season.
Washington's Lastings Milledge drove in a run with an infield single in the ninth to keep the game going past 1 a.m. EDT following a lengthy rain delay in the fourth.
Schafer opened the 10th with a single to left off Joe Beimel (0-1) and then advanced to second on a ground out by Omar Infante. Beimel got two quick strikes on Johnson before surrendering a base hit to right that ended the game.
Jorge Campillo (1-0), Atlanta's eighth pitcher of the game, got the win by working the top of the 10th.
Yunel Escobar hit a three-run homer in the third to give Atlanta a 3-1 lead.
