ATLANTA, April 11 (UPI) -- Kenshin Kawakami went six innings in his major league debut Saturday and the Atlanta Braves beat Washington 5-3.
Kawakami (1-0) held the Nationals to three runs on four hits and four walks with eight strikeouts, to drop Washington to 0-5 on the season.
Kelly Johnson had three hits, including a home run and a double, and drove in three runs. Jordan Schafer had three hits, two of them doubles, for Atlanta, which has won four of its first five games.
Washington starter John Lannan (0-2) went six innings, giving up four runs on nine hits and three walks with three strikeouts.
Ryan Zimmerman had a two-run homer for the Nationals -- who led 3-0 before Atlanta got a leadoff homer from Johnson in the third, and then lost the lead for good when the Braves put up three more runs in the fourth.
Johnson's two-run double in the fourth tied the game at 3-3, and Chipper Jones' RBI single drove in what turned out to be the winning run.
