Hewitt earns Clay Court semifinal berth

HOUSTON, April 11 (UPI) -- Lleyton Hewitt reached the semifinals of the U.S. Men's Clay Court Championship Friday by downing Guillermo Garcia-Lopez 6-3, 6-4.

Hewitt, who was once ranked No. 1 in the world, reached the semifinal of a claycourt tournament for the first time in two years. He won this event in 2004.

Evgeny Korolev set up a semifinal meeting with Hewitt by ousting Guillermo Canas 2-6, 6-3, 6-4.

The other semifinal will find Wayne Odesnik taking on Bjorn Phau. Odesnik survived against John Isner 7-5, 3-6, 7-6 (7-5) and Phau was a 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 winner over Tommy Haas.
