Griffin, Moore earn Wooden Awards

LOS ANGELES, April 11 (UPI) -- Oklahoma's Blake Griffin and Connecticut's Maya Moore have been named winners of the Wooden Award as the top players in men's and women's college basketball.

Griffin, a 6-foot-10 sophomore power forward, led the Sooners (30-6) to a second seed in the South Region at the NCAA Tournament.

The Oklahoma City native established a school record with 25 double-doubles during the regular season and set a Big 12 mark with 13 games of at least 20 points and 15 rebounds.

Overall, he averaged 22.7 points and 14.4 rebounds with a team-high 41 blocked shots in 35 games.

Griffin announced this week that he would enter the NBA draft this summer.

"He's ready for it because of what he went through this year," Coach Jeff Capel told The Oklahoman.

Moore, a 6-foot sophomore forward from Lawrenceville, Ga., averaged 21 points and 8.7 assists while leading the Lady Huskies to a 39-0 record, the fifth-ever unbeaten season in women's college basketball history.
