ATLANTA, April 9 (UPI) -- A goal by David Booth lifted Florida to a 3-2 win over the Atlanta Thrashers Thursday, but the victory failed to get the Panthers into the NHL playoffs.

Florida was eliminated from playoff contention when the New York Rangers beat Philadelphia 2-1 and Montreal gained a point in a 5-4 overtime loss to Boston.

Booth scored the game-winner with 4:25 remaining and Nathan Horton and Cory Stillman notched the other Florida goals.

Zach Bogosian scored both of the Thrashers' goals.

Tomas Vokoun had 23 saves for the Panthers and Johan Hedberg had 28 for Atlanta, which ends its season Saturday against Tampa Bay.
