ARLINGTON, Texas, April 9 (UPI) -- Ian Kinsler and Marlon Byrd combined for eight RBI Thursday when the Texas Rangers completed a season-opening three-game sweep with a 12-8 win over Cleveland.
Kinsler hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the second inning and an RBI single in the fifth, and scored twice, while Byrd knocked in five with a three-run homer, an RBI groundout and an RBI double.
Andruw Jones drove in a run and, like Kinsler, had three hits. Michael Young and Omar Vizquel added two hits apiece.
The winner was starter Brandon McCarthy (1-0).
Cleveland got two two-run homers from Grady Sizemore, and one homer each from Kelly Shoppach, Travis Hafner and Victor Martinez.
Shoppach, Martinez and Asdrubal Cabrera all had two hits for the Indians, who fell to 0-3 for the first time since 1999, when they finished with 99 victories.
The losing pitcher was starter Carl Pavano (0-1).
