BOSTON, April 9 (UPI) -- Home runs by Matt Joyce, Evan Longoria and Shawn Riggans accounted for all of Tampa Bay's runs Thursday when the Rays beat the Red Sox 4-3.
Joyce hit a solo homer in the second inning. Longoria launched a two-run shot in the third and Shawn Riggans' only hit in the game was a solo homer in the fourth.
Longoria had three of the 10 hits for the Rays, who took the final two games after losing the season-opener 5-3 Tuesday.
Rays' winning pitcher Matt Garza (1-0) surrendered an earned run and just four hits in seven innings with three walks and five strikeouts. Closer Troy Percival earned his first save despite giving up Jason Varitek's leadoff solo homer in the bottom of the ninth.
Kevin Youkilis had three of the Red Sox' seven hits.
Losing pitcher Daisuke Matsuzaka (0-1), the victim of Tampa Bay's power surge, gave up four earned runs and nine hits in 5 1/3 innings with three walks and five strikeouts.
