BALTIMORE, April 9 (UPI) -- Nick Swisher drove in five runs with three hits Thursday, leading the New York Yankees' 11-2 rout of the Baltimore Orioles.
The victory helped the Yankees avert a season-opening three-game sweep at Camden Yards.
Swisher hit a fourth-inning two-run homer, an RBI single in the sixth and a two-run double in the ninth.
He also scored twice.
Mark Teixeira and Robinson Cano added homers. Cano compiled four runs and three hits with two RBI.
Two runs scored on reliever Brian Bass' sixth-inning error, while Teixeira and Brett Gardner had two hits apiece.
In his Yankee debut, winning pitcher A.J. Burnett (1-0) gave up two earned runs and seven hits in 5 1/3 innings with a walk and six strikeouts.
Baltimore scored on Brian Roberts' third inning single and Luke Scott's fourth-inning solo homer.
Losing pitcher Alfredo Simon (0-1) surrendered four earned runs and four hits in five innings.
