CHICAGO, April 9 (UPI) -- A two-run homer by Coco Crisp in the ninth inning Thursday lifted the Kansas City Royals to a 2-1 win over the Chicago White Sox.
The blast broke up a scoreless tie with one out in the top of the inning and gave the Royals wins in the final two games of the season-opening three-game series at Chicago's Cellular Field.
Crisp and Alberto Callaspo had two hits apiece. Callaspo scored ahead of Crisp's game-winning blast off losing pitcher Bob Jenks (0-1).
Kansas City starter Kyle Davies surrendered three hits in seven scoreless innings with two walks and eight strikeouts. The winner was Ron Mahay (1-0), the second of three Royals' pitchers, while closer Joakim Soria earned his first save despite giving up a run on Jermaine Dye's RBI groundout with one out in the bottom of the ninth.
Chicago starter John Danks gave up three hits in six scoreless innings with three walks and five strikeouts.
