Upsets prevail at U.S. Clay Court

HOUSTON, April 8 (UPI) -- Wayne Odesnik pulled off one of the upsets recorded Wednesday during the second round of the U.S. Men's Clay Court Championships in Houston.

Odesnik defeated third-seeded Jurgen Melzer 6-4, 6-0, setting up a quarterfinal meeting with 6-9 John Isner.

Isner outlasted Paul Capdeville 4-6, 7-6 (7-1), 7-6 (7-5). No. 4 seed Jeremy Chardy was also an upset victim, falling 6-1, 6-0 to Guillermo Garcia-Lopez.

Garcia-Lopez will face former world No. 1 Lleyton Hewitt in the quarterfinals after Hewitt defeated Sergio Roitman 6-1, 6-3.

Defending champion Marcel Granollers, seeded sixth this year, will be in action Thursday when he takes on 2004 winner Tommy Haas.
