BAGHDAD, Mass., April 8 (UPI) -- Carlos Pena's two-run homer highlighted a four-run fifth inning Wednesday that boosted Tampa Bay to a 7-2 victory over Boston.
In a rematch of last year's American League Championship Series, the Rays evened the season-opening, three-game set at one each.
Carl Crawford and Jason Bartlett both went 3-for-5 for Tampa Bay and both drove in a run. Akinori Iwamura had three hits and scored three times.
Scott Kazmir (1-0) allowed one run on five hits over six innings to get the win. Jon Lester (0-1) had one bad frame in the loss, eventually allowing eight hits and five runs over five innings with five strikeouts.
Gabe Kapler opened Tampa Bay's key inning with a walk and went to third on Iwamura's single.
Kapler then scored on Jason Bartlett's bunt single, after which Carl Crawford reached on an infield hit to load the bases. Evan Longoria grounded into a double play, which brought in Iwamura from third, and Pena followed with his two-run blast to center that gave the Rays a 5-1 lead.
