HOUSTON, April 8 (UPI) -- Jeff Keppinger singled in the bottom of the 10th inning Tuesday, driving in the winning run in Houston's 3-2 victory over the Chicago Cubs.
Keppinger dribbled a broken-bat single through the left side of the infield after Kevin Gregg issued an intentional walk to Miguel Tejada to load the bases.
Doug Brocail (1-0) got the win for the Astros and Neal Cotts (0-1) took the loss.
Gregg replaced Cotts after Ivan Rodriguez and Lance Bergman singled to open the extra inning. Rodriguez moved to third on Jason Michaels' fly out, setting the stage for the squeak single won the game.
Cotts had entered the game in the ninth to snuff out a Houston rally that threatened to break the 2-2 tie.
Alfonso Soriano's second home run in as many days tied the game 2-2 in the eighth.
The Cubs took an early 1-0 lead in the third when Theriot doubled and then scored on a single by Derrek Lee.
Houston's Hunter Pence homered to tie the game in the fifth. The Astros then took a 2-1 lead in the sixth with three consecutive singles with two outs.
