TAMPA, Fla., April 7 (UPI) -- Tight end Kellen Winslow, obtained by Tampa Bay this offseason, has signed a six-year contract extension with the NFL's Buccaneers, the team said.

The deal is believed to be worth $36.1 million, which would make Winslow the highest paid tight end in NFL history.

"Kellen does some things with matchups I think that we can get that are really going to benefit us this year," Tampa Bay Offensive Coordinator Jeff Jagodzinski said in a release on the team's Web site.

"We can put him in different spots and move him around to get the matchup that we want. He can get in and out of a cut like a receiver, now. He's good. He's really good."

The Buccaneers traded for Winslow on Feb. 27, sending the Cleveland Browns a second-round pick in the 2009 draft and a fifth-rounder in 2010 in exchange.

Winslow, 25, had 219 receptions for 2,459 yards and 11 touchdowns in five seasons with Cleveland. His best year was 2006, in which he had 89 catches. Last year, he had 43 catches for 428 yards and three touchdowns.

He's also had to overcome a series of injuries, including a broken leg in his rookie year and a torn ligament in his right knee because of a motorcycle accident in 2005.
