
ST. LOUIS, April 6 (UPI) -- Jack Wilson hit a three-run double to highlight a four-run ninth inning Monday when the Pittsburgh Pirates beat the St. Louis Cardinals 6-4.
Nyjer Morgan was 3-for-5 with two RBI and Adam LaRoche had two hits, including a double, an RBI and a run scored for the Pirates.
Pittsburgh starter Paul Maholm worked 6 2/3 innings, giving up two runs on seven hits. John Grabow (1-0) got the win after surrendering a hit in two-thirds of an inning.
Freddy Sanchez had two hits, including a double, and an RBI for the Pirates. Ryan Ludwick had a solo homer and two RBI, and defending NL MVP Albert Pujols had three hits and drew a walk for the Cardinals.
St. Louis starter Adam Wainwright gave up two runs on four hits, walked five and struck out seven in 5 1/3 innings. Rookie closer Jason Motte (0-1) suffered the loss after allowing four runs on four hits in the ninth inning.
