PHILADELPHIA, April 5 (UPI) -- Atlanta right-hander Derek Lowe held Philadelphia to two hits over eight innings Sunday and the Braves downed the defending World Series champion Phillies 4-1.
Lowe (1-0) -- who signed as a free agent with the Braves during the off-season -- struck out four batters and did not give up a walk.
Brian McCann, with a two-run shot, and Jeff Francoeur and Jordan Schafer homered for Atlanta. Schafer cracked his homer in his first at-bat in the major leagues.
Jayson Werth singled in the Phillies' run in the ninth inning.
Brett Myers (0-1) was the losing pitcher.
