DETROIT, April 5 (UPI) -- North Carolina beat Villanova 83-69 Saturday in the NCAA semifinals and will meet Michigan State Monday for the national championship.
North Carolina will be playing for its fifth national basketball crown against a team the Tar Heels trounced in December.
Ty Lawson had 22 points, seven rebounds and eight assists and Wayne Ellington added 20 points and nine rebounds for the Tar Heels (33-4). Tyler Hansbrough had 18 points and 11 rebounds for North Carolina.
When North Carolina and Michigan State played Dec. 3 -- in the same building they will be playing in Monday -- the top-ranked Tar Heels won by 35 points, beating the Spartans 96-63 in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge. UNC is 4-0 all-time against Michigan State in the NCAA Tournament.
Scottie Reynolds scored 17 points Saturday for the Wildcats (30-8), who made it to the Final Four with a win over Pittsburgh. This time, Villanova made only five of 27 3-point tries.
